Here is some wisdom to make the whole camping experience better that we have pick up along the years. We look forward to adding your sage advice to the list too!
- Clean your house and Wash Your Sheets before you go camping! You know that great feeling you get when you sleep on fresh clean sheets? Now imagine you’ve just come home from “roughing it”. You’ve unloaded the gear and enjoyed a long hot shower removing 2 pounds of dirt and sunscreen. Then you slide into your bed made with fresh clean sheets. Few things say welcome home as this feeling!
- Pre-cook and Prep your camping food for short trips.
- Beware of sites by ponds and streams – while it looks appealing they are a breeding ground for mosquitoes which will ruin a good time.
- Befriend the park ranger while checking in. They have the best advice for the park and neighboring area. If you’re going to be late or leaving early, let them know. That information helps them accommodate others too.
- Avoid the gas station bathroom. Most hotels have clean restroom in their lobby. Grocery store are another option. Then restaurants.
- Hotel on far side of the city. If you are on a long road trip and need to get a hotel in a city, drive through the city at night and find your hotel there. This will help you avoid all the morning traffic of people going to work the next day.
